SWIMMING, BIKING, and RUNNING TO VICTORY Sims’ 11 seen post race at USAT Nationals in 2013 where she qualified for both sprint & olympic distances at only 20 years old with a time of 2:55. The Olympic distance is 1.5 kilometer (1 mile) swim, 40 kilometer (25 mile) bike, and 10 kilometer (6 mile) run. “Coming off the bike you’re trying to do all these calculations of like how much time your run has to take,” said Sims. “I’m doing a half Ironman this summer so I am looking forward to that.” Photo courtesy of Katie Sims '11

NEW CLASSMATES Math teacher Scott Benke and science teacher Brandon Groff join a seventh-grade gym class on a Monday afternoon. “The kids come out of the locker room and then they get a few minutes of choice time to get a ball or talk with their friends until everybody’s out of the locker room,” said Oestreich. “Then the whistle blows and we get started with instructions for the workout and the activity of the day.”
