In a quiet corner of Greenhills, a group of young artists gather, their eyes fixed on glowing screens. The gentle hum of computers fills the room as they dive into a world of color, typography, and boundless creativity. This is the Graphic Design Club, a vibrant community of students passionate about pushing the boundaries of design.
The club, a recent addition to Greenhills’ vibrant extracurricular scene, has quickly become a hub for students passionate about graphic design. It offers a platform for students to explore their artistic talents and collaborate with like-minded peers.
“I am currently taking Ms. Wilson’s Graphic Design class, once I started taking the class I really started to develop a passion for the topic, inspiring me to create the club to find others with the same interest,” said Mohamad Issa ‘26 one of the clubs founders.
The journey to establish the Graphic Design club wasn’t without its challenges. The initial proposal was met with rejection, but the founders persevered, convincing school staff of the club’s potential to enrich the student experience.
“The idea for the club was originally denied but after talking to some school staff we were able to get approval,” said Issa “We knew the value of a club like this, and were determined to make it happen.”
The club’s membership is diverse, attracting students with varying levels of experience and artistic abilities. Eder Tijero ‘27, a member of the club, shared his perspective on the benefits of joining
“I’ve always had an interest in Graphic design. I took the class and did it outside of school. It’s nice to have a club where people share my interest,” said Tijero “It’s a good club for this school considering all Greenhills students are given access to the Adobe apps.”
The club’s close connection to the school’s Graphic Design class fosters a unique learning environment. Students can apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects and receive guidance from experienced faculty.
“Mohamad came into the class very confident and very happy. It was clear he had an interest in Graphic design,” said Elizabeth Wilson Hill, the club’s faculty sponsor and teacher of the Graphic Design class. “It’s all students with a sincere interest in the club, which is great to see.”
The club’s inclusive environment aims to foster creativity and experimentation. Members are encouraged to explore various design techniques, from digital illustration to typography and branding.
“For many people, drawing on paper is really difficult, graphic design gives us the opportunity to be artistic regardless of that skill,” said Tijero.
The club’s relaxed atmosphere allows members to experiment and learn at their own pace. “The club’s very easy going, you’re given the opportunity to explore what you want,” said Tijero.
This freedom to explore has led to a diverse range of projects, from digital illustrations to captivating animations.
As the club continues to flourish, the club’s members have ambitious plans for the future. “It’s a growing club and we’re always looking for new members,” said Issa.
They envision the club as a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and the development of a strong design community within Greenhills.
The club is focusing on collaborative initiatives beyond individual projects. Members are working together on design challenges and sharing knowledge with each other. “Our collaborative spirit has fostered a strong sense of community within the club,” said Issa.
The Graphic Design Club aims to make a significant impact on the school’s creative landscape. As the club continues to grow, it hopes to become a recognized force in the local design community, showcasing the exceptional talent of its members.
